In applications where high cut or full cut measurement of water in hydrocarbons is required, operators may turn to manufacturers and specify instruments which claim accuracies at higher water content but fail to seriously consider that water and oil do not readily mix. The problem is compounded when measurements are done in larger diameter pipes.

When it comes to sampling of hydrocarbons, the API and ISO committees have made international recommendations to users. These recommendations specify mixing fluids for consistent results. If this applies to hydrocarbon sampling which is used as a baseline for buyer and seller of hydrocarbons, the same is applied to online measurement since the fluid is the same.

Operators looking for solutions can utilize the integral mixers supplied by EESIFLO.
